Review of Dayan Co. 5th cube modified Edition Zanchi

About 3 months ago, during the summer vacation, I found out that prototype of new edition of Dayan Company’s cube “Zanchi” has launched. For the ‘normal’ cube manias like me, it is almost impossible to get the prototype, because the number of prototype is less than a thousand, so people line up in front of company’s door a week before it’s launched. I decided to buy it after it is launched public version directly from China, because some prototypes may have flaws and also if I buy cube after it is launched in Korea, I would wait more than a month after it is launched in China. Which means you cannot get an early number of an official card of Zanchi. If you buy a cube, there comes a special card with a number on it. It is more precious if the number is small. When buying a cube in Korea, It is most likely to get a cube card with a number higher than 100,000. However, through personal route, I succeeded in buying Zanchi after three days it was launched. (Number was 1377, pretty low)
Again, through my secret route, I was able to contact with cube modifier. I asked him to modify my cube corner, edge and core. He changed Zanchi’s core with Old-A core, which is really rare in Korea-because cube with Old-A core are not produced anymore-. After modifying, it is called Elite Zanchi inside the cube manias’ café. Here is the review of my cube Zanchi.

Cornercutting is to turn the right side of the cube with the top side of the cube turned. The bigger angle top side is turned, the better the cornercutting of that cube is. Unlike original Zanchi, Elite Zanchi was marvelous in cornercutting. It almost turned 60 degrees, and still working.
It would be the best cornercutting cube untill now.

There are some cubes that are faster than this cube. This is because Zanchi used a special thorn technique to prevent cube explosion, which made speed a bit slower. However, Elite Zanchi grinded part of this thorn, letting the speed to reborn.

After modifiying it, it made a bit more explosion of Zanchi. As I said, modifier grinds a bit of this thorn, made explosion occur more frequently.

At least once, I wanted to be a hero of her.

I could not remember what I was doing. I was standing in front of the crosswalk. I looked around as if I have never seen this place before. Everything, every single thing in this world was new to me. Actually, they’re quite familiar, but still seems new to me. However, I found out only one thing that is not new. It’s from my world and my heart. Though it was only the appearance of the behind, I instinctually realized something.

-It’s her.-

I didn’t know why, but for a second I felt like time was running slowly. Everything was moving as if they were in the scene of a slow video. I could see every single thing, such as a dump truck heading toward her and traffic light has changed into red. I heard her screaming. Not even thinking, my body moved itself, unconsciously.

“No!”

I leaped towards the air and hugged her as hard as I can. I fall back where the end of the crosswalk was. I rolled with her, covering her face with my bear arms.
“Arrgggh!”

My skins were torn and it was bleeding harshly. However, I grabbed her hands and let her stand. She was alive, in front of me. But my condition is awfully bad, in a second; I fell unconscious because I bleed too much.

“W…what..?”

I was in a funeral, wearing a dark shirt. Now I was feeling somewhat real. Not my dream.

I cried. I cried until I could imagine her through my drop of tears.

In the same world, two different situations occur simultaneously. Companies want employees. However, they cannot get enough employees as many as they want. On the other hand, many people want to get a job, but cannot get one. What is the problem of this situation?

There are ones who need and also ones who want. In reality, many people are in vicious cycle. In Korea, Generation called ‘Eight hundred eighty thousand won generation’ is having a serious problem. It’s the generation that is now 18~24 years old; that the average income is eight hundred eighty thousand won and the unemployment rate is at its peak.

The reason why people cannot be employed even though many companies need employees is because generation has changed. Nowadays, industrial system has changed to 4th industry, which is an information industry. This needs highly educated employees, the ones who graduated university and the ones who have Ph.Ds. However, not only the ones who fit this condition apply for the employment, but also the ones who do not fit this condition also apply for the employment. In this case, usually the former only gets the job. Therefore, people who cannot get these high-waged jobs can only get labor jobs, usually low-waged.

The things are getting worse because the government is trying to show a makeshift solution. The president of America, Barrack Obama is trying to extend the time period that people can get support from government if they are unemployed, from 20 weeks to 99 weeks. Even though many citizens give an enthusiastic welcome to this change of policy, this is only a temporary solution. It cannot solve the fundamental problem of this situation. Instead, government should make a policy to create jobs for the people who cannot be employed. Extending support period only halts the economy, making it even harder in later days.

Every day, economists are trying to search for the fundamental solution of global unemployment. However, many solutions have come up and gone beyond the history. Yet no solution is known as ‘perfect solution’. However, I believe someday the global leaders of KMLA can give a better solution for all people in the world. Also, I urge people in the world to have in mind that they can be the ones who could solve the economic problems that exists right now.

Film - Spring. 易地思之

Watching the film, I realized that things elementary school kids usually do to small weak animals are very atrocious. Even I did some of those things when I was very young. Once, there were a lot of wood louses in our playground in school. Often my friend and I used to play with those, because it rolls itself up when touched. We found it funny to play and did many cruel things, when I retrospect now. We often bisected it with knife, chopped its legs and heads for fun. As I grow older, when I came to know that all life on earth is precious, I stopped those things. I even sometimes try not to step on small plants that grow between bricks on a road. However, watching this film made me remind the importance of 易地思之. This is read ‘Yeok Ji Sa ji’, meaning think in other’s point of view. Even for me, if a big boulder is hanging on me, it would be a real pain. Most of the people know that every life is unique, but we should realize that human is killing many small lives not on purpose and those lives are equally unique and precious as ours. Not only killing is the point, but also other things could be included in this. For example, bullying or distressing others. The important thing is, we need to think in other’s view.

Why different?

Creativity (Noun): the use of imagination or original ideas to create something.

This is the definition of creativity that I found on Oxford Dictionary. It doesn’t seem so special, but why, why are people so interested in this little word, creativity, especially in the 21^st century? I was trying to figure out things that have changed society that requires creativeness. I once read a book written ‘People in society began to look for different things from others after they successfully maintained stable basic needs.’ Yes, it is also written in many other books too. What I want to talk about is not a redundant or cliché words that are written in such books. Instead, I want to focus on human’s feelings rather than usual facts.

           In the Ken Robinson’s lecture, he mentions that modern education is actually depriving children’s creativity. Before moving on to the result, here I want to scrutinize the reason. Schools are most likely to not provide an individual lesson for each student. The education system that schools use is not for the individuals, but for the whole student group. It is not specialized to each student, because it would be waste of time and money if the education system is adjusted to manage every single different kind of students. Realistically, it is almost impossible to do this. Therefore, government made a big blast furnace called ‘school’, which melts students’ individuality and solidify as a same shape.

           Therefore, students lose their own shapes they originally had. They are watching, listening, learning and acting the same way. In this situation, their thoughts are being standardized. The reason that creativeness become important is because every single person living in this world is different. Succeeding in maintaining basic needs is only a minor fact. The facts that every person is different, their brain is different and their genes are different are the most important ones. The people are now realizing that they are very different, making them to put emphasis on creativeness-thoughts that they had since they were born, their originality. Creativeness is an originality that has not been contaminated by social disturbance.

           This creativeness comes out from people’s original and genuine thoughts. As people grow up, they learn to be the same. They learn to act in a social structure. This binds and restricts people’s thoughts to stay inside the social tune. Their frequency of thoughts are being retuned to be normal, or thought to me the normal. For example, as mentioned in the lecture, kids are not afraid of being wrong. Even if it’s wrong, they keep try to think and act as they thought, because they’re not bound to social rules. Unlike grown-ups, kids can think that are behind normal, but which doesn’t mean it’s bad. It means ‘different’, not ‘wrong’.

           The driving force that develops society comes from different thoughts. At first it may seems wrong for other people. For example, democracy in medieval ages was thought to be insane. However, now it is the standard in modern ages. Schools now are unifying students’ ideas, thoughts and action with standardized education. When this social bind is removed from education, students will be able to develop their creativeness.

Two styles, two different hearts and two different feelings are the ways my life has. It seems quite ironic because I sometimes feel like I have two different personalities, though not a 'double personality syndrome'. However, this kind of personality I have made me write somewhat differently  from others. My previous writing class teacher described me as ‘a person who can write two essays that others won’t know that they were written by the same person

Well, maybe this is because my emotional changes are very severe, or I could be just sentimental. But personally, I don’t hate  these feelings that bring some kind of inspirations to me. These inspirations have got to be very special to me, because they are the motivations for me to write a literary work. Novel, poem, or just any kinds of work that comes to my mind are written with my inspiration.

These two emotional changes make me sometimes cynical and sometimes very serious. For me, I usually write novels when I become cynical and I write poems or essays when I’m very serious. For example, When I wrote a short story ,  Mr. Johnson said my work made him greatly moved. I don’t have a copy of  it now, but  Mr. Johnson might have it. It was about my story , how my destiny was first chosen to be in KMLA. It was also a story about me and a Buddhist temple, where it had roofing tiles to write wishes on it. After the wishes are written on it, it is used to repair the old tiles on the temple. I had no idea by that time why I wrote ‘I will enter KMLA!’ on the tile. I felt like I was possessed by some kind of mystic soul. Now, I’m here, writing this essay in KMLA.

However, I become very cynical when I’m in a bad mood. I used to write novels when I don’t feel good. Once, I had written a novel ( which was a fantasy novel ) that had severe criticism towards the educational system in Korea. I feel sometimes weird that I attain the clear sight through the world when I’m in “Cynical mode”. Therefore, I can write the critical essay or writing just about anything. But the problem is, I have to be in a bad mood when I want to write extremely cynical essay.

I really like fantasy novels, because I can extract my personal thoughts and pour it back to the novel. Not only reading I love, but also writing . I give some romantic elements to the novel. That's why I don’t have a girlfriend. I’m currently trying to find out how to make cheesy things such as magic into a none-cheesy writing. These kinds of aspects are included in my writings. It’s not perfect nor it’s very concise. However, I’m in KMLA to improve, therefore I will keep challenge on writing.
